In Memory of Mr. Smoot

Our hearts are saddened today, as we recently heard the news that one of our Founders has passed away. David K. Smoot, started Smoot Company in 1960. A degreed engineer from K-State University, fresh out of college, Mr. Smoot worked for Archer Daniels Milling Company. This is where he learned how bulk material was moved and processed; this spurred a desire to design and build these types of systems for others. He made a $4,000 investment to start business and built his first pneumatic conveying system in 1960. Over the years he kept the patent office busy with designs of rail car unloaders, rotary valves and diverter valves. Mr. Smoot laid the groundwork for the design and manufacturing of our extensive pneumatic conveying product line that we know today.

Mr. Smoot was sole owner from 1960 until merging with Taylor Products in 2001 creating Magnum Systems. Since 2001 Magnum Systems has grown and solidified itself among providers of pneumatic conveying and packaging equipment around the world.

Since 2001, Mr. Smoot would often take time to stop by our Kansas City, KS location and visit with employee’s that remained. He did this up until just a couple years ago. Passing away at the age of 92, he leaves a legacy in the pneumatic conveying industry that will be remembered by many.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
